MEd ICT
Master of Education in Information and Communication Technology
The Programme
Welcome to the M.Ed. in ICT course web pages.
The M.Ed. in ICT is a new course which ran for the first time in
September 2000. However it is based on the successful M.Ed. in Micro-computers
course which ran for eighteen years. It was felt however that the
curriculum should be thoroughly reviewed in the light of the current
situation and that the title should be changed to reflect the emphasis
that is currently being placed on the use of communication technologies
in education.
This Masters course is within the remit of the
Learning, Teaching and Assessment Research and Teaching Group in
the Faculty of Education. All the course module tutors are part
of this group, one of several within the Faculty with a particular
research focus.
The Faculty of Education is located within the
Humanities Building and this is where almost all the classes will
be held, although some school visits will be involved. There is
a Faculty library on the fourth floor of this building.
Manchester is a vibrant, multi-cultural city.
It has good theatres, libraries and many tourist attractions. If
you are new to the city I am sure you will find it an interesting
and stimulating place to live.
The main aims of this programme is to examine
how the use of Information and Communication Technologies can improve
the teaching and learning process. There are two strands to the
underlying aims, one is theoretical and looks at the main theories
of learning and how ICT can be applied within these theories. The
second strand is the practical one which develops the shills and
expertise to exploit the use of ICT within the theoretical framework.
This involves learning programming skills so that participants can
create their own learning materials
