Where can I get help?
To help you know who to contact, here are some
broad guidelines:
Programme Director
The Programme Director is responsible for
the day-to-day running of your programme. You may approach her about
any academic or personal matters affecting your studies; these might
include timetable problems, course unit choices, dissertation topics,
requests for any official letters you may need and so on.
Programme Secretary
The Programme Secretary is responsible for the day to day administration
of the programme and is available as a source of information and
support for you while you are studying. Please contact her/him if
you need any general information or material related to the programme
or if you need to leave a message for any other staff delivering
the programme.
Personal Tutor
You will be allocated a personal tutor soon after you enrol on your
programme. For some students, the Programme Director may also be
the Personal Tutor. The University requires each student to be allocated
a personal tutor who can give general guidance on academic and non-academic
problems and who can suggest other sources of help. Your personal
tutor will also support you to work through your Personal Academic
Development Programme (PADP) (see 3.3 for details).
Faculty Tutor
The Faculty Tutors role is to provide general student support
and guidance across the Faculty and deal with student complaints.
The Faculty Tutor complements the Personal Tutor system by providing
an alternative source of support and guidance if the Personal Tutor
is unavailable or you wish to contact another member of staff not
associated with your programme of study. (Dr. William West contact
telephone No: 0161 275 3397)
Course Unit Tutor
Each course unit has one or more members of staff who are responsible
for the delivery and assessment of the unit. Course unit tutors
will be able to help you with academic queries about specific units.
Postgraduate Office
This office is responsible for the admissions, registration, assessments
and results of all those enrolled on postgraduate programmes within
the Faculty of Education. It can provide you with general information
and regulations relating to your programme, including all details
about submission dates and procedures for dissertations. You will
have to submit all your assignments and your dissertation to this
office. Any requests for assignment extensions should also be sent
here (addressed to the Faculty Secretary and sent via the Course
Unit Tutor). The office also publishes examination results and approves
dissertation titles. You should inform this office of any decision
to intercalate or withdraw from your programme (see 7.4 for further
details on withdrawal and intercalation).
The office provides copies of all the standard
forms you will need, which are also available from the Facultys
web page at:
http://www.education.man.ac.uk/
Department of Education
Library
This is based on the fourth floor of the Humanities Building and
provides texts to support some MEd programmes as well as holding
past student dissertations.
John Rylands University
Library Manchester
The library provides texts and extensive electronic information
resources to support your programme. Specific requests for induction
or training on JRULMs databases should be made to Ms Sheila
Padden (see Useful Contact Information for her details).
Fees Office
Students will need to visit the fees office in the Universitys
John Owens Building to pay their fees. Clare Buckley should
be contacted regarding any queries (contact Telephone No: 0161 275
2116).
