Structure of the programme.

The M Ed is a modular course and is worth 180 UCET points divided between six course units each carrying 20 credits and a dissertation carrying 60 credits. Each course unit normally runs for 12 weeks. In addition to the 30 hours contact time, student will be expected to complete a further 170 hours of independent study.

This year the course will consist of 6 core course units with no options which will, in total, cover the eight areas required by the BPS. Students who can show evidence of study at masters level in which there is substantial overlap of course unit content may be granted Accredited Prior Learning.

The programme may be followed full time or part time. Full time students will study four core units in semester one followed by the remaining two core units and the dissertation in semester two core course units plus one option. Part time students will take a minimum of one core course unit per semester and are advised to take research methods and statistics in the first semester to allow the maximum length of time to complete the work for the dissertation.
