Fees and Funding

The annual fee for Diploma, Masters and Doctoral programmes is:

Home/European Union students - 2002/2003 (2003/2004 TBA)

Full-time study £2,870

Part-time study £1,435

Part-time students reading for the degree of MEd pay fees on a modular basis. Further details may be obtained from the Postgraduate Admissions Office.

Overseas students -2003/2004

Full-time study £7,850

Part-time study £3,925

You should assume that the tuition fee will increase in each year of your course by a percentage roughly equal to the UK rate of inflation (currently 2.5 per cent).

In addition to the tuition fees, full-time students should ensure that they have a guarantee of sufficient finance for living expenses for the full period of the course. At 2001-02 levels, the estimate of total living costs for a single student in Manchester for a period of 12 months is £7,485.

Postgraduate Certificate in Education

Students on a postgraduate course which leads to Qualified Teacher Status should not have to pay a tuition fee. The Department for Education and Employment (DfEE) makes funds available to make payments to providers of initial teacher training on behalf of PGCE trainees. This only applies to students who count as home students as defined in the Education (Fees and Awards) Regulations 1997 (as amended) and those from elsewhere in the European Union.

The PGCE course fee for those defined as Overseas students for 2002/2003 will be £9,950.

The DfEE booklet 'Financial Support for Higher Education Students' published in up-dated form in January each year gives full information and can be obtained by calling the DfEE free on 0800 731 9133.
