Home Sources of Funding If you do not already have financial support, there are a number of ways of funding your study through the University. You should note that all of these schemes are highly competitive and only a small proportion of applicants are successful. ESRC Research Studentships for MPhil or PhD study We are recognised by the ESRC for the award of these government-funded studentships to candidates for MPhil or PhD degrees in the Faculty. The studentships are available for part-time and full-time study by citizens of the European Union. The value of the full-time award is the tuition fee plus a maintenance grant for up to three years (tuition fee only for non-UK citizens). The date for receipt of applications at the ESRC is 1 May. You must first be accepted for an MPhil or PhD in Manchester and will need to spend a considerable time in consultation with your research supervisor in order to complete the studentship application. ESRC Advanced Course Studentship for full-time study on the MSc in Educational Research The Faculty is recognised by the ESRC for the award of a government-funded quota studentship to a student following the taught programme of MSc in Educational Research. The studentship is available for full-time study by citizens of the European Union. You must first be accepted for the MSc in Educational Research and then be nominated by the Faculty for the quota award. The value of the award is the tuition fee plus a maintenance grant for one year (tuition fee only for non-UK citizens). The date for receipt of applications at the University is 1 May. Also see the ESRC web site. The University of Manchester Research Studentships (MPhil or PhD)The University annually awards a small number of studentships for full-time study. The value of the award is variable as the sum available may be shared between several applicants. Overseas Research Studentship (ORS) Awards (for MPhil or PhD) These government-funded awards are available for full-time study by citizens of a country outside the European Union. The value is the difference between the tuition fee for a European Union student and a non-European Union student. The duration of the award is one year in the first instance. The date for receipt of applications at the University is normally 30th April. Commonwealth Scholarships Students from Commonwealth countries may apply to the Commonwealth Scholarships and Fellowships Plan for funding. Details may be obtained from the designated agency in your country (usually the Ministry of Education).
