Educational Support and Inclusion - Courses
M.Ed./Diploma in Special and Inclusive Education
Director:
Prof. Mel Ainscow
Content: The theory and philosophy of the
fields of special and inclusive education. There is an emphasis on the
implementation of organisational practices that contribute to the development
of schools for all. Research methods are taught practically, and include
the participant conducting an enquiry intended to lead to school improvement.
Key Aims & Objectives: The
aim of the programme is to critically engage with thinking and theory
in the field of special and inclusive education. It is intended to give
students the opportunity to study and critically reflect on relevant theory,
research and practice in the areas of special educational needs and inclusive
education. In this way the course addresses global issues in inclusion
and ways in which governments, local authorities, schools and local communities
can reduce barriers to participation and learning for all children. Therefore
the aim is to view special needs education as being central and inexorably
linked to the key task of providing high quality education for all.
