Ph.D. (University of Manchester), M.A. (University of Keele), B.A, (Manchester Polytechnic) Advanced Diploma in Management Studies (University of Salford), PGCE (University of Manchester).

Main Research Areas:
Early history of Manchester University; YMCA history; eugenics and the history of disability through images; Victorian disability charity images.

  2. Series of articles (with Alex Robertson) on aspects of the early history of the University of Manchester as a lead in to the 150th anniversary in 2001 of the founding of the university. The series of articles appears in the Bulletin of the John Rylands University Library of Manchester from 1996 to 2000 at the rate of one per year. The articles have been commissioned by the
    editor of the Bulletin, Dr Dorothy Clayton. Alex and I will be co-writing and co-editing a special edition of the Bulletin in 2001 entitled The University in its Community: 1851-1939
