BA(Hons) in Education

The Programme

Programme Director: Colin Lees

The programme meets the needs of adult returners to education who are seeking to develop their careers in education or related fields.  In particular it caters for those aiming ultimately to proceed to courses in initial primary teacher training either via a Postgraduate Certification in Education or the Graduate Teacher  Programme route.

From a broadly based group of course units at level one with provide a suitable introduction to the study of education, students progress to focus on aspects of subjects such as English and Mathematics which are central to the National Curriculum.While the details of the programmes of study of individual students will vary, they may include the following areas:

  • aspects of educational studies
  • aspects of child development
  • parents and schools
  • development of mathematical abilities
  • the setting up of a stand-alone computer
  • evaluation of computer systems
  • making connections in mathematics
  • physical education and dance in the primary school
  • cultures and religions in Britain
  • special needs in education
  • Shakespeare's history plays
  • Victorian social history
  • the portrayal of women in Victorian fiction
  • using computers in mathematics and science education
  • the teaching of primary mathematics
