Aims

The Internet is the fastest growing technology that has ever been developed. The World Wide Web houses a vast amount of information and give access to reliable and fast communication systems. This module will examine the potential of the Internet as a means of communication , presenting information about an organisation and as a means of delivering learning material. The module will be set in the context of the National Grid for Learning.

The module will examine:

  • Potential of the Word Wide Web;
  • Current use of the World Wide Web;
  • How to create pages on the World Wide Web;
  • How to manage a Web Site.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of the module students will be able:

  • to create Web Pages;
  • manage a Web site;
  • use HTML to create Web pages;
  • use Java.

  • What are Web Pages;
  • What is Hypertext;
  • Creating Web Pages Using Microsoft Office;
  • Design of Web pages;
  • Using HTML;
  • Adding Links to Web Pages;
  • Using Java script to create Web pages;
  • Animation on Web pages;
  • Interactive Web pages;
  • Managing a Web site;
  • Using Web pages to deliver learning.

Method

This will be a 'hands on' module run in our computer laboratory and no computing knowledge will be assumed.

Assessment

The assignment will be a set of linked Web pages designed to be used by an educational establishment, accompanied by notes explaining the aims and rationale of the pages
